The new film based on Suzanne Collins' novel will tell about the youth of Haymitch Abernathy, Katniss Everdeen's mentor from the original trilogy.
The film "The Hunger Games: Dawn of the Reaping" will be officially released in Russian cinemas — the film will premiere in Russia on November 19, 2026, simultaneously with the world premiere. This information was confirmed to Kinopoisk by representatives of Arna Media, which became the copyright holder of the film adaptation in the region.
The project will be another prequel to the main franchise and will tell about Haymitch Abernathy, a participant in the 50th Hunger Games. He is the one who will become the mentor of Katniss Everdeen, the heroine of the original trilogy. The main role was played by Joseph Zada, and the cast also includes Whitney Peak, Ralph Fiennes, Kieran Culkin, Jesse Plemons, Maya Hawke, Elle Fanning and McKenna Grace. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence, the director of the previous parts of the franchise. Filming began in August 2025.
The film takes place 24 years before the events of "The Hunger Games" and is associated with the so-called Quarter Quell — in the anniversary games, the number of tributes doubles, and four participants are sent to the arena from each district.
The script is based on Suzanne Collins' novel of the same name, which was officially released in Russia in the spring of 2025.
Earlier, Russia launched the official release of "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" — two years after the world release.
