The project's hardware requests are compared to Cyberpunk 2077 in path tracing mode and Ultra settings — the load on the video card is comparable.
Hardware Unboxed tested the game on 40 video cards and concluded that Borderlands 4 suffers from extremely poor optimization. The editors note that UE5 only partially explains the situation — the engine is technically complex, but the current result is too poor.
In 4K at maximum settings, only systems with RTX 5090 and RTX 4090 overcome the 30 fps threshold. At 4K and medium settings, stable 60 fps is only possible on the same cards. Even the RTX 3090 delivers about 34 fps, which makes the game virtually uncomfortable.
Additional criticism was caused by a sharp decline in image quality. When switching from Badass mode to the recommended "medium" settings, the visuals become worse than in Borderlands 3, and performance still remains poor.
