The head of Arrowhead Games announced that there are no plans for a Helldivers 2 sequel yet, although he previously confirmed ideas for Helldivers 3. Instead, the developers want to make the game "eternal", like Runescape, which has been supported for years and retains an active audience.
Helldivers 2 confidently holds its position as one of the most popular modern games-as-a-service thanks to its atmosphere, interesting missions, and engaging gameplay. But many players are waiting for changes in the sequel, and it seems they won't be happening.
Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani answered a fan's question about a possible direct sequel in the official Helldivers 2 Discord:
«No plans for Helldivers 3 — only Helldivers 2 for as long as possible. I'm thinking Runescape».
According to him, the studio is focused on the current game and wants to develop it for many years, gradually improving the experience for players.
Arrowhead sees Helldivers 2 as a "forever game". Despite the game's success, there are still technical issues and quality shortcomings that cannot be fixed with a patch, making long-term support for the game a higher priority than a quick sequel.
