Shader compilation continues to negatively impact the gaming experience.
A major update was recently released for Borderlands 4. The developers claimed performance improvements, but some players didn't notice it; the looter-shooter started working worse for them.
Gearbox Software issued a statement on social media — the problem is explained by shader compilation:
«We have received reports that some players are experiencing decreased stability after downloading the update.
Lag issues should eventually disappear as shaders continue to compile in the background while you play. If problems persist after 15 minutes of continuous play, you can also clear the shader cache using the method approved by your video card manufacturer.
If problems continue to occur, please submit a request to our support service so we can help you troubleshoot!»
