Borderlands 4 continues to garner criticism for its poor optimization. Comparisons with Borderlands 3 only exacerbate the situation.
Despite high scores from critics, users on Steam are massively criticizing the game. The average rating of the project over the past week has dropped to 62%.
The main complaint is related to performance. According to Hardware Unboxed, on an RTX 5060 Ti video card, Borderlands 3 in the same location and on Badass settings delivers about 115 fps, while Borderlands 4 delivers only 37 fps.
At the same time, the graphics do not look revolutionary. Borderlands 4 on Unreal Engine 5 visually surpasses the previous part, but the difference does not justify the drop in fps. Borderlands 3 on Unreal Engine 4 still looks decent, as can be seen in the third minute.
The project performed especially poorly on low settings. To achieve a frame rate comparable to Borderlands 3, you have to turn on Low quality. In this case, Borderlands 4 shows only 82 fps on the RTX 5060 Ti, but at the same time looks much worse than the six-year-old Borderlands 3 on Badass, where the same card delivers 115 fps.
