Alex from Digital Foundry noted a problem with the modern understanding of the word "gameplay."
"It feels like the term gameplay is stretched in the context of the trailer… you show a bunch of cinematic scenes where the player doesn't control the actions, and only about 10% of the trailer demonstrates the player controlling the camera".
Despite the criticism, the team is impressed. Oliver highlighted the detailed model of Wolverine, praising the advanced skin shaders, which are more realistic than some characters in Spider-Man 2. He also noted the mature tone of the game: battles with blood, guts, and bone fragments, which differs from the studio's more "family-friendly" projects.
Technically, the trailer ran at 30 fps in quality mode on PS5 Pro. Oliver noticed ray tracing, where Wolverine's reflection remained in the puddle as the character moved. Alex added that the internal resolution was around 1440p in gameplay scenes and 1512–1600p in cutscenes, suggesting the use of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).
The team hopes that the final version will offer a 60 fps mode and an updated PSSR by the release in late 2026. Richard noted that the game does not use Unreal Engine 5, and Insomniac's technologies and artistic style emphasize the mature direction.
