Trying to replicate what you see in the game can lead to big problems.
The authors of Ghost of Yotei presented not only combat mechanics in the game, but also various activities. The main character can pet the local foxes, but you shouldn't "repeat this at home."
Locals in Hokkaido (Japan) drew attention to this mechanic in Ghost of Yotei and warned of the potential danger:
«although [the fox] may seem like a cute and friendly animal, visitors to Hokkaido are advised to maintain a safe distance and not touch it under any circumstances. This is because the red fox carries a parasite — a tapeworm known as echinococcus – which can infect humans and cause echinococcosis, which, if left untreated, can lead to death».
However, the heroine of Ghost of Yotei is safe — at the time the game takes place, there was no such disease (parasite) in Hokkaido.
