The peculiarities of the setting imposed certain restrictions.
In a conversation with Retro Gamer, former Rockstar artist Andrew Wood revealed some details of the project's production.
It turned out that from a technical point of view, the "GTA about school" Bully is GTA Vice City — about 80% of the RenderWare engine and code was taken from it. However, this game was more about fist fights, there were no shootings in the style of Grand Theft Auto.
Since Bully is a game in a school setting, the animators faced a difficult task — it was required to show fights in such a way as not to overdo it with cruelty:
"the choreography was difficult for the animators, because they had to show fights with other children" and "if you overdo it" with the animation of the fight "it immediately became too cruel and inappropriate".
