Modder and dataminer EpicNNG found mentions of Ava from Borderlands 3 in the Borderlands 4 files, but she was excluded from the game before release.
According to EpicNNG, many data related to Ava were found in the Borderlands 4 files, but she was completely replaced by the siren Amara, one of the heroines of Borderlands 3, at a late stage of development. Initially, Ava was supposed to team up with another Borderlands 3 character, Zane, to participate in key events in Borderlands 4.
The dataminer noted that Amara's abilities in Borderlands 4, including the protective barrier used at a certain point in the campaign, are very similar to Ava's abilities. However, all mentions of Ava, including character models, textures, and audio files, have been completely removed from the game, with the exception of some internal data.
Many Borderlands fans consider Ava to be one of the most unpleasant and annoying characters in the series. People were unhappy with her character and irrational behavior. Gearbox tried to change players' opinions about Amae through some missions added to Borderlands 3 after release, but to no avail.
