Karl Urban's Johnny Cage has become the face of the upcoming "Mortal Kombat 2" movie, but the story will not only focus on him.
Warner Bros. in the marketing campaign for the sequel "Mortal Kombat 2" focuses on Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban, creating the impression that his character will be the central figure of the film.
However, judging by the statements of director Simon McQuoid and actress Adeline Rudolph, who played Kitana, the plot will focus not only on him.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, McQuoid said that he wanted to pay more attention to female characters from the games, and the choice was obvious.
"These are, of course, Kitana and Jade. There are other wonderful female characters, but for the second film they seemed logical."
The role of Jade went to Tati Gabrielle, known for the series "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina", where she starred with Adeline Rudolph.
Rudolph herself emphasized that the script seemed to her large-scale and multi-layered, connecting several worlds of the franchise.
"When I first read the script, it reminded me of the intertwining of two universes. There is Earthrealm, and there is Edenia and Outworld. Kitana's storyline is closely intertwined with Johnny Cage's story throughout the film."
The premiere of "Mortal Kombat 2" is scheduled for May 15, 2026.
