Square Enix is preparing to bring Dissidia Final Fantasy back to smartphones almost two years after the closure of Opera Omnia.
Square Enix has announced the development of a new game in the Dissidia Final Fantasy universe for iOS and Android mobile platforms. So far, the project is represented only by the official website, which states that these will be "team battles against bosses in arenas" — a wording hinting at a turn-based or semi-automatic format, similar to Honkai: Star Rail or classic JRPGs.
The site features a banner with silhouettes of heroes, among which you can recognize, for example, Cloud from Final Fantasy VII or Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII. A total of ten characters are depicted, most of whom remain a mystery. In addition to the banner, the page shows locations inspired by real urban landscapes.
Details about the project are not yet available, but Square Enix will hold a full presentation on October 14 at 13:00 Moscow time, where it will present the first footage and details of the game.
The new Dissidia will not be the first attempt to transfer the series to mobile devices. In 2017, Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia was released in Japan, and a year later in the West, offering hero collection and turn-based battles. The project lasted more than six years and was closed in February 2024. It is not yet known whether the new mobile Dissidia will develop the ideas of Opera Omnia or offer a completely different approach.
