Modder xoxor4d has released the first version of a path tracing mod for Grand Theft Auto IV. The game received realistic lighting and detailed shadows, using the same 2008 textures.
Tester gabdeg posted a series of screenshots on the ResetEra forum showing how much the technology has changed the look of Liberty City.
To install the mod, you need the latest version of GTA 4 (1.2.0.59) — both on Steam and in the Rockstar Games Launcher, although the author himself recommends the second option. The mod is compatible with Fusion Fix, but xoxor4d is already preparing its own patches to improve stability and performance.
For now, the project is only available to Patreon subscribers at the $10 level, and a public release is expected by the end of the month.
This is not xoxor4d's first success — he previously adapted RTX Remix for Call of Duty 4, Portal 2, and Left 4 Dead 2, proving that even old games can be transformed to modern levels.
