Square Enix has not yet revealed details about the completion of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, but game director Naoki Hamaguchi spoke at Brasil Game Show 2025, where he talked about the progress of development. He noted that the studio did not want to cut out any part of the story or gameplay from the first two games.
According to him, fans of the 1997 original were waiting for a complete recreation of every scene, so the team decided to split the remake into three parts.
"Final Fantasy 7 is a game with a huge fan base. We could have shortened the story and released one game, but the original fans would not have forgiven us. To tell this story using new technologies, it was necessary to divide it into three projects."
The game director also stated that the third part will complete the trilogy with an ending that will appeal to both old fans and those who became acquainted with the series thanks to the remake.
"I already have a clear vision for the ending of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. I think it will appeal to everyone who loves the original, and those who became fans later. I am sure everyone will love this game."
The release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S is scheduled for January 22, 2026. Square Enix has confirmed that all parts of the trilogy will be released on all major platforms.
