Sonic Team plans to expand the "Year of Character" initiative after the success of the "Year of Shadow".
Sonic Team intends to develop the format first tested as part of the "Year of Shadow" campaign. This was announced by studio head Takashi Iizuka at the Brasil Game Show conference. According to him, the team is considering dedicating individual campaigns to other heroes of the franchise, especially those who will appear in future films.
«Last year, we promoted the “Year of Shadow,” inspired by the film. But now I would like to choose a new theme every year and highlight different characters. We can predict who will appear in the next film, and we want these heroes to play an active role.»
Given that Amy Rose and Metal Sonic are expected to appear in the movie "Sonic the Hedgehog 4", scheduled for release in 2027, these characters are considered the main candidates for the next campaign. However, many industry representatives believe that it is the "Year of Amy Rose" that will be next, since she is supposed to play a central role in the future film.
