Bandai Namco is preparing the ground for actively promoting Gundam both in Japan and abroad.
Bandai Namco Holdings has announced a major restructuring of its anime divisions. The changes will affect Bandai Namco Filmworks and Sotsu Co., Ltd., which will combine overlapping areas related to the production, planning, and copyright management of the Gundam franchise.
Bandai Namco fully acquired Sotsu back in 2019 to consolidate the rights to the franchise. Despite the fact that both companies are part of the same group, until now the development of Gundam has been running in parallel: Filmworks was engaged in production and planning, and Sotsu — in sales and merchandising. This led to overlapping responsibilities and reduced efficiency.
Now the company wants to make brand management more transparent and efficient — especially against the backdrop of the preparation of a new film, created jointly with Legendary Pictures and Sunrise.
The process is scheduled to be completed by April 1, 2026.
