Warner Bros. continues to search for the most successful release window for the sequel to "Mortal Kombat" with Karl Urban.
The movie "Mortal Kombat 2", which was originally scheduled for release in October 2025, and then moved to May 15, 2026, will now be released a week earlier — May 8, 2026.
Warner Bros. has once again not commented on the postponement, leaving room for speculation.
Previously, Simon McQuoid spoke about the previous postponement, explaining that the film became a "victim of its own success" after its release in digital format. Despite modest box office receipts ($84 million), it was the success on streaming services that showed the need to increase the scale of the sequel.
"With each viewing [of the original], this [sequel] became bigger and bigger. In the end, we created a huge summer blockbuster, and we can be proud of that."
