Not only ordinary employees, but also managers lost their jobs.
Finnish studio Rovio, known for the Angry Birds series, has announced the layoff of 36 employees, including some managers who worked on the mobile game Angry Birds Dream Blast. The spin-off, released in 2018, did not meet the company's financial expectations, which was one of the reasons for the reorganization.
A Rovio representative told MobileGamer.biz that the studio is restructuring to improve product quality and better integrate with Sega, which acquired Rovio in August 2023.
As part of the reorganization, Rovio is creating new business units, reallocating projects between studios, and reducing the number of games being developed in the Finnish division. Some games will become independent business units, and the Barcelona office will take on more projects.
