"We won't anymore": 1666: Amsterdam developers commented on the use of AI in the project

Panache Digital Games assured that it only used AI tools during the concept creation stage.

Panache Digital Games has completely abandoned the use of generative artificial intelligence in the development of 1666: Amsterdam. This was stated by the company's founder and one of the creators of the original Assassin's Creed, Patrice Désilets.

1666: Amsterdam was presented at Summer Game Fest and became one of the most unexpected announcements of the event. Along with the announcement, the developers released a playable prologue, but soon players discovered visual elements in it that raised suspicions about the use of generative AI.

Panache Digital Games subsequently admitted that it did use AI in the creation of some game assets. After a negative reaction, the developers apologized and promised to remove such elements by the time the game enters early access.

Now Désilets claims that Panache has completely excluded generative AI from the production process. The developer noted that the main part of the technology's use occurred at the earliest stages of the project's creation — concept and pre-production.

Yes, we used a little AI in the process, mainly at the very beginning — at the concept and pre-production stage. We are not using it now, and we will not use any AI anymore.
Patrice Désilets, Panache Digital Games.
