Journalists highlight the atmosphere, unusual RPG structure, unique day-night cycle mechanics, and a flexible quest structure where player decisions influence events as some of The Blood of Dawnwalker's main strengths.
The time system particularly interested reviewers. Unlike most RPGs, The Blood of Dawnwalker does not allow players to endlessly postpone important events: completing quests consumes time, meaning players must choose what to do, understanding that it will be impossible to see absolutely everything in one playthrough.
Among the drawbacks, critics noted the repetitive open world, limited variety of side activities, insufficiently deep combat mechanics, and performance issues.
