DLSS 5 made Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 look exactly as Warhorse envisioned it in their fantasies

It's not entirely clear whether Daniel Vavra is praising AI or criticizing his own artists.

Warhorse Studios Creative Director Daniel Vavra believes that DLSS 5 technology can bring the final image of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 closer to how the artists originally conceived the game.

After the recent DLSS 5 leak, many images of popular games processed by the neural network appeared online. In some of them, the changes look quite radical: characters get unnaturally smooth skin and altered facial features, and the lighting and color palette differ significantly from the original.

However, Vavra showed much more restrained results of DLSS 5's work and explained why he sees practical benefits in the technology. According to him, it allows the on-screen image to be closer to what developers see on powerful workstations during game development.

I often criticized the work of character artists when some faces in the game looked insufficiently detailed and plastic. They showed me that everything looked normal on their computers, and that the problem was with the game's lighting. Now everything looks right in the game itself too! This is exactly how these faces were supposed to look. AI doesn't invent anything.

The developer separately noted DLSS 5's work with shadows. According to him, the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 team was extremely unhappy that the engine did not allow correct display of shadows from small elements of character equipment — for example, hats, hoods, helmets, buckles, laces, and pouches.

You can't even imagine how much it annoyed me that in KCD2 we couldn't render shadows from hats, hoods, and helmets on characters' heads, or even from small model details. DLSS 5 does this, and it does it absolutely brilliantly!
