In HBO’s “Harry Potter” series, Lucius Malfoy will appear much earlier than in the books.
Johnny Flynn, known for his roles in “One Life” and “Emma”, revealed new details about his participation in the HBO series based on “Harry Potter”. At the premiere of the film & Sons as part of the BFI London Film Festival, the actor confirmed that he had already filmed scenes as Lucius Malfoy for the first season. He also shared his impressions.
«It's good. I filmed a little bit, but I'm just thrilled with these stories, with these books actually. I still remember reading them as a teenager and they meant so much to me and my kids, so it's great to be a part of it».
The participation of Lucius Malfoy in the first season is a deviation from the events of the original J.K. Rowling books, as the character only appears in the second book — “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”. At the same time, the first season will adapt “The Philosopher's Stone”.
Earlier, the creators stated that their ambitious decade-long project would follow the original books without the cuts that were made in the films. However, the early appearance of Lucius Malfoy in the series demonstrates that the show will go beyond the canon, providing more context for the characters and the world.
The series is being filmed in the UK, and the premiere is scheduled for 2027.
