Cyberpunk fans should pay attention to the single-player shooter Defect. emptyvessel studio, where developers of DOOM, Call of Duty and The Last of Us work, showed gameplay, promising a new level of immersion and destructibility of the environment.
This is a game without an interface, where every wall can be destroyed, each type of ammunition interacts with the environment in different ways, and gadgets and tools radically change the approach to combat. The developers promise dynamic, non-linear storylines that react to the player's decisions in real time, and the game world never repeats itself twice.
The Defect demonstration at Galaxies Autumn 2025 featured a squad of armed THE SYSTEM employees — futuristic police officers — attacking a destroyed residential complex to eliminate a rogue AI. Events quickly escalate into a brutal clash with a local gang. One of the police officers seizes the mind of a bandit, reviving a fallen comrade and turning him into part of the squad.
The action takes place in the last city of humanity, controlled by the ruthless AI THE SYSTEM. Players complete open missions: from smuggling weapons and eliminating targets to rescuing hostages. It is possible to play alone or in a team of four in PvP and co-op.
Defect is being created on Unreal Engine 5 and will be the first major project of emptyvessel studio with an atmospheric soundtrack by Mick Gordon (author of the music for DOOM).
