WoW Midnight Alpha Is So Bad That Modders Are Refusing to Support Blizzard's Game

In World of Warcraft Midnight, the developers decided to impose a number of restrictions on add-ons (custom modifications). Some members of the mod community are unhappy and have decided to temporarily abandon support for the game.

For example, the statement of the oUF developer went viral — the framework is part of the mod assembly for the ElvUI interface.

After spending a few hours on the alpha version and seeing how bad its state is, I decided to postpone this venture. To get rid of the errors that were popping up everywhere, I had to completely disable the main functionality, such as nameplates, tags, cast bars and auras, as well as a couple of other elements. The tags and nameplates could probably have been saved, but everything else is simply impossible to get working. [...Blizzard] has employees who can handle this on their own. In its current state, oUF will not be developed, at least not by me. I'll try again in a few months when they announce the pre-patch date and see if there's any way to fix it. If everything is still chaotic by then, we'll probably end this project.

The developer noted that Blizzard used to modernize the API (application programming interface), providing modders with new features that either improve the visual component or performance, but now the situation has changed:

Now something completely different is happening. Blizzard just gutted the API. No matter how much time and effort we put into rewriting it, we still won't be able to do anything to replace what's broken [...] to configure something, you need to do some internal calculations, but now we can't do that because all the necessary values are secrets, we can't read them, change them, we can't react to them [...] Ultimately, it's not about time and effort, we just don't have the tools anymore to do what we want to do.
