Halo Campaign Evolved, a remake of Halo Combat Evolved, was recently announced. The game designer of the original project also reviewed the promotional materials.

Jamie Griesemer shared his opinion — he is not very happy with the remake itself, and also believes that Halo Studios undertook the remake because they do not yet have an understanding of what to do with the franchise:

[...] but what is the point of a "remake". Nostalgia? Attract a new generation of fans? Keep a huge team of artists busy while you figure out what to do next?

In the remake promo of Halo Campaign Evolved, the developer saw an updated level layout — now you can drive a Warthog to places where the player was forced to move on foot in the original. Jamie explained why the restriction was used:

You couldn't take a Warthog and run over Hunters. I deliberately placed stones in the way so that you had to fight them on foot. When you can [just knock them down], it ruins the whole battle

When players told the developer that while playing the original Halo, they found ways to drive a Warthog in such places, he replied:

That's why it's so fun! You outsmarted the mission designer! The remake wants to show how smart the map designer is. It steals all the fun.
