The fourth season of \"The Witcher\" will be released on Netflix on October 30, but instead of Henry Cavill, Geralt will be played by Liam Hemsworth. The replacement of the main actor has become one of the most discussed topics of the series. Although Cavill never named the exact reason for leaving, everything points to creative differences with the team.
It is known that the actor, devoted to the books of Andrzej Sapkowski and the games of CD Projekt RED, was not happy with the direction of the series. Back in 2021, showrunner Lauren Hissrich said that Cavill regularly sent the team comments on Geralt's lines.
\"Many of the notes we received from him were about Geralt – he wanted him to talk more. Henry noted that in the books we spend a lot of time in the character's head, so he was interested in how to convey this in the series.\"
Later, the actor himself confirmed:
\"All my requests and suggestions came down to one thing: to remain true to the books. For me, this has always been the most important thing.\"
In his farewell statement, Cavill wrote:
\"My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with monsters and adventures, but alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.\"
The fourth and fifth seasons, filmed back-to-back, will be the finale of the series and will cover Sapkowski's last books – \"Baptism of Fire,\" \"The Tower of the Swallow,\" and \"Lady of the Lake.\"
