YouTube is preparing for major changes. Starting November 17, the platform will introduce age restrictions on videos depicting violence in video games. The new rules will affect minors and unregistered users.
The duration, quantity, and intensity of violent scenes, as well as whether it is the main theme of the video, will be assessed.
Content creators have received instructions from YouTube: they must hide or edit footage with blood, torture, and graphic scenes. If previously the system simply blocked the most violent videos, now the filters will become much stricter.
The platform explains the move as a desire to create a safe environment for young users.
YouTube also intends to ban the promotion of materials related to digital gambling—be it skins, NFTs, or in-game bets. All such videos will also receive age restrictions.
The innovations have already sparked controversy: some consider it censorship, others—protection of the audience. How YouTube will change will become clear very soon.
