Romero Games studio confirmed a few weeks ago that its new shooter had lost funding from Xbox Game Studios. But John Romero does not intend to shut down the project.
In an interview, the developer stated that the game has not been canceled. According to him, the project can be revived or redone in a different format, because about $50 million has already been invested in it — an AAA-level budget.
"We are still thinking about what to do with our big game. This intellectual property, the code that we developed, belongs to us. Everything we created here belongs to us.
Therefore, there are still many companies interested in working with us. Let's say that over the years we have accumulated assets worth about $50 million. Publishers are interested, even if they are used to create another game."
According to the developer, work on the project stopped approximately in the middle, when Xbox Game Studios suddenly stopped cooperation. For Romero Games, this came as a "huge shock."
