Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise once again attracted the attention of millions of viewers to the screen.
The horror series «It: Welcome to Derry» premiered on HBO on October 26 and garnered an impressive audience in its first three days — the premiere episode was watched by 5.7 million viewers on all HBO platforms, including cable broadcast and the HBO Max streaming service. This put the project in third place among the most successful premieres in the service's history, second only to «House of the Dragon» and «The Last of Us».
For comparison, «House of the Dragon» in 2022 debuted with almost 10 million viewers per day, and «The Last of Us» — with 4.7 million. Thus, «Welcome to Derry» surpassed most other HBO hits of recent years and confirmed that Stephen King's world is still capable of gathering a huge audience at the screens.
The series takes place in 1962 and is related to the early events in the history of Derry. The project tells about the first generation of the Losers Club — the ancestors of Mike Hanlon from the original films.
Andrés and Barbara Muschietti, as well as Jason Fuchs, are working on the series. Bill Skarsgård once again played the main role, returning to the image of Pennywise. The cast also includes Joshua Odjick, Chad Rook, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider and others.
The second episode will be released on HBO Max on the night of October 31, just in time for Halloween. Further, new episodes will be released weekly on Sundays. The first season includes eight episodes.
