Sega has published new sales data for the Persona 5 series, which has become a key part of the Persona brand, which grew out of Shin Megami Tensei. The company noted that the franchise has achieved outstanding results and brought great success to Atlus.
Persona came back to life thanks to the fifth part, and interest in it grew after the popularity of Persona 4 Golden on PlayStation Vita. For 8 years, Atlus actually created its own sub-series by analogy with Final Fantasy VII from Square Enix. It included three spin-offs, an improved edition and a remaster of the original. The result is impressive — 13 million copies sold. This is a serious leap for a brand that at the beginning of the PS4 and Xbox One generations was known only to fans of Japanese role-playing games.
But if Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal became a commercial triumph, the spin-offs showed modest results. Persona 5 Strikers accounted for most of the sales of side projects, while Persona 5 Dancing in Starlight and Persona 5 Tactica together accounted for just over 4% of the total circulation.
