The Outer Worlds 2, a new game from the studio that developed Fallout New Vegas, was recently released. Daniel Vávra, the creator of Mafia and Kingdom Come Deliverance, also familiarized himself with the project.
The creator played The Outer Worlds 2 and gave the game a score of 7 out of 10. He shared his thoughts on social media — the developer is unhappy that Obsidian, despite the development of technology and all of Microsoft's investments, has not been able to offer new mechanics:
....what saddens me is that the company and people who gave us one of my favorite games (Fallout New Vegas) could not, even after 15 years, despite all the money from Microsoft and the latest technological advances, come up with a single new game mechanic that could take this proven but ancient formula to a new dimension. Can any of you remember a single new game mechanic in The Outer Worlds that wasn't in Deus Ex or the original Fallout games more than 25 years ago? Unfortunately, I can't. Give me a living, simulated world! Real nonlinearity! Give me something more than loot boxes, loading screens, and level progression in a static world with scripts.
