The PS Portal, created specifically for the Remote Play function, has become the most popular way to remotely play on PlayStation. According to Sony, about 5% of PS5 owners in the US have already acquired the device.
Recently, the company added cloud streaming support for PS Plus Premium subscribers, allowing them to play without a console directly through the cloud, with access to a library of over 2800 games.
In an interview, Senior Product Manager Takuro Fushimi said:
Our data shows that PS Portal users are more active than others. Currently, PS Portal has become the most used device for PS5 Remote Play, surpassing mobile phones, PCs, and even PS5 and PS4 consoles.
This is not surprising, since the device was originally created for Remote Play, but these figures show how successful the device has become.
But before the release, the situation was quite different. In 2023, 60% of nearly 6,000 respondents said they were not going to buy a PS Portal, and 33% showed no interest in it at all. Now everything has changed — 51% of the latest survey participants reported owning the device, and 32% turn it on at least once a week.
