Recently, an enthusiast with the nickname doodlum returned to Fallout New Vegas and introduced the Perfect Skies modification, designed to diversify weather effects.
The modder prepared more than 200 new weather conditions and talked about his approach:
Previously, all textures in the game and any mod were created in image editing tools by cutting clouds from real photos. Instead, this mod does not use any real photos at all. Everything is generated on the computer.
As a result, doodlum was able to offer clouds of "perfect quality, without the shortcomings that were previously common, especially in modified clouds" (poor transparency, lighting problems, etc.):
clouds were also "baked" into two separate textures, one of which mimics lighting from the sun or moon, and the other is the scattering of light in the sky. This means that the same cloud texture can mimic multiple times of day and integrate with any location, as no information tied to time or location is "baked" in. This system is more advanced than the one in Fallout 4. A script was used to create ESP plugins that extracts lighting from each weather and time of day separately.
The Perfect Skies mod is distributed free of charge via Nexus Mods. It is compatible with Viva New Vegas.
