The fheroes2 project team has released update 1.1.12. This game engine is a multiplatform free remake of the original Heroes of Might and Magic 2.
The authors noted that the update is "one of the largest in recent years." The map editor now has a basic version of the random map generator - the function is still "in development", many parts are not finished.
In addition, the artificial intelligence has been significantly improved:
Now computer-controlled heroes anticipate the beginning of a new week for weekly objects such as creature dwellings, windmills, and magic gardens. This allows them to plan their actions on the adventure map more intelligently. In addition, they are now better at deploying troops before battle, increasing their chances of success. We have also added new conditions for hiring heroes by the computer player to make the later stages of the game more interesting.
The game interface has been improved:
....updated the icons for the spell General Dispel and the Screen Resolution setting, added new buttons to the Map File Settings window, and the turn order panel is now located above the battlefield at high resolutions. We have also restored the playback of multiple videos on the same screen, including missing animations for campaign videos. You can now switch between cities in the Magic Guild using the arrows, delete maps from the list, and write longer text messages when creating new format maps in our editor. And that's not all - there are really a lot of changes!
Also, the authors of fheroes2 announced that basic iOS support has been implemented.
