Many either completely condemn AI or blindly defend it.
Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani has advocated for a more balanced approach to the debate surrounding the use of artificial intelligence in games. In an interview with The Game Business podcast, he criticized the extreme positions on this topic, noting that too many either completely condemn AI or blindly defend it.
The discussion was prompted by the scandal surrounding the shooter ARC Raiders from Embark Studios, where AI is used to generate voices. Some players and critics, including a reviewer from Eurogamer, accused the developers of unethical behavior. Jorjani explained that AI allows actors to create voice models that can then generate additional lines for updates without requiring repeat sessions in the studio.
Jorjani recalled that studios have long used tools like Simplygon to automate asset loading, which used to be done manually. This did not cause scandals, although it did lead to job losses.
