Gearbox was able to move away from the wave of criticism towards Borderlands 4. The reason was the growing interest in Risk of Rain 2 — the publisher managed to gather an impressive audience around the project.
The game rose to the top 10 in revenue on Steam. Risk of Rain 2 and the Alloyed Collective DLC, at the time of publication, occupy seventh and eighth places respectively, surpassing Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
Alloyed Collective continues to attract players. On Steam, the expansion has "overwhelmingly positive" reviews — 95% recommendations with more than a thousand ratings.
Some users hint to Gearbox that when creating fresh content for Borderlands 4, the studio should take an example from Risk of Rain 2. Currently, the rating of Borderlands 4 has not risen above 60% positive reviews on Steam. The main complaint is poor performance on the Unreal Engine 5.
In the last 24 hours, over 47 thousand people simultaneously played Risk of Rain 2 at its peak. Gamalytic estimates the total sales of the project at approximately 11 million copies.
