The project is positioned as a new interpretation of the universe, not another reboot.
Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced the development of a new "Stargate" series led by Martin Gero. Gero has a long history of collaboration with the franchise, and in the new project, he will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
According to Gero, returning to "Stargate" was a personal event for him.
"Twenty years ago, 'Stargate: Atlantis' was my first real job in television. This franchise is literally in my blood, and now Amazon has entrusted me to open a new era for it — and I promise it will be something extraordinary."
In the press release, the project is described as a "new original story" designed to open a "bold new chapter" in the history of the science fiction saga. At the same time, Gero emphasized that the series is not a reboot and does not cancel the events of previous installments.
Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures are also involved in the creation of the show, and Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, who launched the franchise with the original 1994 film, are among the producers. Veterans of the series, Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi, who worked on "Stargate: SG-1", "Atlantis", and "Universe", will act as consultants.
Details about the cast and release date have not yet been disclosed.
