Valve recently introduced the Steam Machine, but did not disclose the cost of the device at the time. Now, company employees have outlined a conditional "price range" that they are focusing on.
Programmer Pierre-Loup Griffais and one of the Steam Deck designers, Lawrence Yang, participated in a podcast by the author of the YouTube channel Skill Up, and during the conversation they were asked about the cost of the device:
I think that if you assemble a PC from components with performance comparable to the level of [Steam Machine], then this will be the price range that we are focusing on. Ideally, we would like to be competitive and offer a good [value for money...]. It is very difficult to say exactly what the price will be now, because it is influenced by many external factors.
Previously, the cost of parts for assembling a Steam Machine was estimated at $425, i.e. the final price of the device may be $450-500.
Blogger Linus Tech Tips suggests that the price will still be higher, at the level of $600-700.
There is also an opinion that the cost of the device may reach $800.
