Tensions escalated after Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney recently spoke out against the requirement to label content created with AI in Steam.

The first signals appeared during the Zero Hour event on November 29, which brought together 10.5 million players and opened a new map, the Golden Coast. Players pointed to "AI errors": for example, the "Mile High Retreat" poster showed a yeti with nine fingers, and the "Sauce Talk" poster contained smoothing and distortions typical of generative AI. Screenshots from fictional projects in the game - "Cooking With Thunder" and "Golden Opportunity," where strange folds in clothing and implausible details of food are noticeable, are also being discussed online.

On Reddit, 84.7% of users stated that AI should not be used in games the way it is in Fortnite. The hashtag "no to AI slop" has garnered over 3,000 votes.
