The series based on the cult game series Tomb Raider from Amazon is gradually gaining details.
According to Deadline, actress Sigourney Weaver, known for the films "Alien", "Avatar" and many others, is in talks to join the cast of the future Tomb Raider series for Prime Video. Details of her possible role have not yet been disclosed.
The main character — the seeker of ancient artifacts Lara Croft — will be played by Sophie Turner, previously known for "Game of Thrones". Phoebe Waller-Bridge ("Fleabag") is the screenwriter and executive producer, and Chad Hodge ("Good Behavior") and Jonathan van Tulleken ("Shōgun") are also listed among the showrunners and producers.
Filming of the series will begin on January 19, 2026, but the plot is still kept secret. According to a preliminary description, viewers will find an "epic adventure around the world" in the spirit of the classic games in the series.
Earlier, from the description on the website of the production company Story Kitchen, which is also involved in the production, it became known that the series will be included in the general Tomb Raider canon. At the same time, it is not yet specified whether it will be connected with future games of the franchise or with those already released.
It is possible that new details will appear after the announcement of the next game in the series, which Crystal Dynamics is working on together with Amazon. It should be presented at The Game Awards 2025 ceremony, which will be held on the night of December 11 to 12.
