The remasters are available on PC, consoles, and mobile devices.
Square Enix has announced that the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series has surpassed six million copies sold worldwide.
The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series is a complete overhaul of the first six mainline Final Fantasy games. Each has received newly redrawn 2D pixel graphics created by the series' original artist, Kazuko Shibuya, as well as rearranged soundtracks under the direction of longtime composer Nobuo Uematsu. The goal of the project is to preserve the visual and musical identity of the originals while adapting them for modern platforms and player expectations.
The remasters were originally released on PC (Steam), iOS, and Android with phased releases from July 2021 to February 2022. Later, the series appeared on consoles: on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on April 19, 2023, and on Xbox Series X|S and the Microsoft Store on September 26, 2024.
