The developers believe that a full-fledged sequel to Ark: Survival Evolved will appear in a few years.
Studio Wildcard co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz presented a two-year roadmap for Ark: Survival Ascended, a remaster of Survival Evolved, released in 2023. The first major expansion, Lost Colony, will be released this week, and the Legacy of Santiago DLC in the fourth quarter of 2027 will complete the program. This is a platform for testing many ideas planned for the sequel.
This is a prequel to Ark 2, which is directly related to its plot and tests many of the sequel's mechanics and features.
When asked if the roadmap meant a planned release of Ark 2 in 2028, Stieglitz confirmed: "That's our intention."
He added:
Working on Ark 2, we realized that we needed to learn a lot more about how to create a game of this type and build the work in stages. Learning technologies and mechanics seemed safer to us than immediately releasing a separate product.
Ark 2 was first shown at The Game Awards 2020 with a cinematic trailer featuring Vin Diesel. According to Stieglitz, the extent of his involvement in the project is not yet determined, and this will directly affect the plot of the sequel.
