Falcom, known for the Trails in the Sky and Ys series, has announced the start of using AI in the game development process. This became known during a recent meeting with shareholders.
A Falcom representative stated:
We are acting cautiously due to legal issues. We use AI to work through scenarios and conduct research. What used to take 2-3 hours can now be done in 10 minutes. AI is also used to correct typos in the text.
It is noted that the translation was done using built-in Google tools, so inaccuracies in wording are possible. The statement confirms that Falcom has begun integrating AI into workflows, albeit at an early stage of development.
The use of AI is becoming increasingly common among Japanese gaming companies. At Tokyo Game Show this year, more than half of the developers surveyed admitted that they use AI in game creation. Sega previously stated that it would use AI "appropriately", despite criticism, and Square Enix plans to use AI for 70% of tasks in testing by 2027.
