The organizers of the Indie Game Awards withdrew the "Game of the Year" award after Sandfall Interactive told the Spanish newspaper El País about the use of generative AI for several temporary textures. According to the developers, these materials were removed within five days after the release. But for some of the professional community, even this approach turned out to be unacceptable.

Former Rare developer and voice actor Chris Seavor commented on the situation in Bluesky with a short remark: "Well..."

Later he added:

Don't be lazy bastards and pay for the work - that's the point.

In another message, Seavor noted that the use of AI is more common than is commonly believed, and admitted that he himself does not rule out its use at the pre-visualization stage. At the same time, he stressed that generative AI should not be used to create game assets - even temporary ones, calling this approach "laziness."

Indie developer and streamer PeachyAenne also spoke out in Bluesky:

It's joyful to see the community uniting around important issues and defending its position.

There is still no consensus on the use of AI in game development.
