Recently, Silent Hill f writer Ryukishi07 held a live stream of his horror game. During the stream, he shared details of the development, behind-the-scenes facts, and talked about ideas that didn't make it into the final version.
Particular attention was drawn to Ryukishi07's admission that the name of the main character, Hinako, is a direct reference to the anime "When They Cry - Higurashi".

As Ryukishi07 explained, the names Hinako, Rinko, and Sakuko are taken from Jessica's friends from the second episode of the anime — Hina, Rin, and Saku.
Honestly, these were just temporary names, and I planned to replace them with cooler ones later.
However, for some reason (perhaps by accident) they remained in the game. Ryukishi07 hinted that these are not the only references to the "When They Cry - Higurashi" series in Silent Hill f, and many other ideas didn't even make it to the final version.
