Switch 2 Devkit Shortage No Longer Hindering Developers – Insider

According to Nate the Hate, the devkit shortage was the key reason for the delay in the release of Call of Duty on the Nintendo Switch 2. The discussion began after a forum user suggested that the absence of the game at the console's launch was not due to access to the hardware, but to internal cost optimization at Xbox. As an argument, he pointed to the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 on Switch 2 shortly after the console's launch.

The insider explained that in large publishing houses, access to devkits is not automatically distributed among all teams. The fact that one Activision studio received Switch 2 devkits does not mean that all internal divisions, including the Call of Duty team, had them simultaneously.

According to him, the Call of Duty developers received the devkits not "too late," but late enough to not be ready for a simultaneous release with other platforms. He noted that the situation with devkit supplies has been largely resolved.

The information coincides with Jez Corden's comments on X, where he explained the absence of Call of Duty at the start of the Switch 2 by saying that developers "need devkits to port," but they "just weren't there." Later, the journalist added that the first version of Call of Duty for Switch 2 is "almost ready" and should be released within the next few months.
