Fallout creator Tim Cain continues to release blogs on various topics. Recently, he decided to recall the projects of Troika Games studio and explained why they were so buggy.

«We had a lot of ideas about different features. We didn't limit ourselves at all, and we were a small team. Every time Troika undertook to create a game — whether it was Arcanum, Temple of Elemental Evil, or Bloodlines — we had so much we wanted to do. We were full of ideas».

Usually, all the functions (gameplay mechanics) were created very quickly, as the developers tried to add more content to the game. Moreover, they took a similar approach to creating tools for mechanics:

So not only the end result, but also the tools for creating it were buggy and imperfect. Having so many possible options for gameplay meant unintended interactions [of game elements].

Tim Cain admitted that all these bugs are the fault of the team, but also noted that RPG games in general are often released "buggy".

Although Troika Games projects had glitches, the opportunities offered to players were impressive. Even after many years, gamers return to Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, Arcanum and more — now the studio's games are being finalized by the community.
