Activists Fail to Cancel AI-Generated Indie Hit: My Winter Car Gathers Tens of Thousands of Players and 95% Positive Reviews on Steam
Many My Winter Car players are not concerned about the use of AI in development.
Some members of the gaming community and various activists are against the use of artificial intelligence in development. For example, they previously began to "cancel" the authors of the highly publicized Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, because the developers used AI at a certain stage.
However, people with an active stance have not yet been able to completely "cancel" games. The recent early access release of My Winter Car showed that many gamers are not particularly concerned about the use of AI - they just want an interesting game.
The My Winter Car page states that
- Some basic textures were generated using AI during development.
- Some of the music on the in-game radio is generated by AI.
- Some elements of graphics and speech in in-game TV programs were created using AI.
At the same time, the peak online of My Winter Car (which some activists consider to be "AI-generated slop") on Steam exceeded 24,000 users, and the reviews are "overwhelmingly positive" (95% rating).
On the game's Steam forum,complaints about the use of AI are found, but there are not many of them.
