Not even a month has passed: Ubisoft closes the studio where a trade union was recently organized
Layoffs in the gaming industry continue.
2026 begins for Ubisoft with a new round of layoffs. The closure of the "Ubisoft Halifax" office has been announced.
It is noteworthy that recently 61 employees of the studio joined the trade union Game & Media Workers Guild of Canada.
The trade union was certified on December 18, 2025 and was named "Ubisoft Workers of Canada, Halifax".
Ubisoft issued a statement:
Over the past 24 months, Ubisoft has taken extensive measures to optimize the company's operations, improve efficiency and reduce costs. As part of these initiatives, Ubisoft has made the difficult decision to close its studio in Halifax. 71 employees will be laid off.
