Nintendo Switch 2 Sales 35% Lower Than Original Switch in Its First Christmas Season
Sales decline recorded in all major markets.
According to a recent report by The Game Business, in the US, the Nintendo Switch 2 sold 35% worse in November-December 2025 than the original Switch in its debut holiday period of 2017. In France, the decline is even more significant - minus 30% compared to 2017. In the UK, the result is also negative: minus 16% compared to the first Switch's figures.
Positive dynamics are observed only with a broader view: if we add up sales across Europe, the Switch 2 outperformed its predecessor by 7%, and by the end of 2025 in the UK, the new console still managed to surpass the 2017 figures by 6%.
The situation in Japan is also ambiguous: by the end of the year, the Switch 2 is ahead of its predecessor by 11%, but December holiday sales still turned out to be slightly lower than the original Switch in 2017.
