Elijah Wood announced that new "Lord of the Rings" films may be released after "The Hunt for Gollum"
It seems that the return to Middle-earth will not be limited to just "The Hunt for Gollum".
Actor Elijah Wood, known for his role as Frodo Baggins, has expressed his opinion on the upcoming film "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" and hinted that the project may not be the only new film in the Tolkien universe.
"I am excited that Andy [Serkis] is going to direct it. It feels incredibly appropriate and he has such a grasp of the character and he really made that character his own. So I am excited. I think it's going to be great. I am fascinated and excited to watch... I know that their intention is to make more than this one. And that is exciting and fascinating to see where that will lead."
The actor did not specify which projects might follow "The Hunt for Gollum". His words may mean both preparations for new films based on "The Lord of the Rings", and confirm earlier rumors that "The Hunt for Gollum" is conceived as a dilogy.
Wood himself has not yet confirmed his participation in the film:"I can neither confirm nor deny. Listen, you can trust a wizard". He is referring to Ian McKellen, who previously reported that characters named Gandalf and Frodo would appear in the film, but deliberately did not confirm who would play them.
Filming of "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" will begin in May 2026. The film is scheduled to premiere on December 17, 2027.
